On August 7, 2023, the professional stock car racer William Byron was forced to prematurely exit the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway.
Byron’s No. 24 Hendrick Chevrolet took a hit making contact with the outer wall while exiting Turn 4 on the last lap of Stage 1.
He wanted to continue racing, so he steered his car into the pit lane, but the car was unfit to race.
He completed 46 laps out of a scheduled 200 laps, ultimately securing the 35th position as the event concluded.
Despite the setback, Byron maintained his third-place standing in the series rankings. However, he now faces a 96-point gap behind the Cup Series leader, Martin Truex Jr.
