AJ Allmendinger, aka The Dinger, is an American professional stock car racing driver who competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series and part-time in the Xfinity Series for Kaulig Racing.

The two-time Cup Series winner began racing at age five, riding BMX bikes.

He quickly progressed to quarter-midgets and then karts, where he won two International Kart Federation Grand National championships.

  • Allmendinger was arrested by Mooresville, North Carolina police in October 2009 for driving under the influence (DUI). Police pulled him over at 1:27 a.m. after they saw him driving erratically. NASCAR placed him on probation till December (2009) and fined him $10,000. He apologized for his actions and said he was “deeply sorry” for the embarrassment he had caused his fans, sponsors, team, and NASCAR.
  • The Dinger was temporarily suspended from the July 2012 Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway after failing a random drug test taken at Kentucky Speedway. NASCAR officials then suspended him indefinitely after his ‘B Sample,’ also turned out to be positive.
  • Allmendinger finished third in the 2019 Circle K Firecracker 250 at Daytona International Speedway, but he was disqualified after his car failed an engine vacuum test during a post-race inspection. The NASCAR Xfinity Series technical inspection team found that Allmendinger’s car had an illegal engine vacuum reading, violating NASCAR’s rules.

In the 2015 ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway, Sage Karam lost control of his car after passing a bump in the tarmac surface on the 179th lap.

His car crashed heavily against the wall, and the car’s nose was removed with utmost force.

Driving through the crash scene, Wilson got hit in the head with the nose cone and suffered a fatal head injury.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but couldn’t be saved as his injuries were very critical.

Allmendinger paid tribute to Wilson during the final race of the 2015 Cup Series by displaying Wilson’s name above his Car’s window.
